Grade 1 Families Here and across the World The focus of social studes in grade one is the family as it exixts in America and in other countries across the world. Students begin by exploring their own culture and identify and then expand their study to other lands and peoples to learn abou the ways that individuals and groups live and work. They will learn about the concept of governmnet, including the levels of government and the foundations and principles of democracy. They become aware of the importance of economic choices for families.
Columbus Day Standard 1-2: The student will demonstrate an understanding of home, school, and other setting across the world. Indicator 1-2.2 Compare the ways that people use land and natural resoources in different settings across the world. Standard 1-4: The Student will demonstrate an understanding of the foundations and priciples of American democracy. Indicator 1-4.3 Recall the contributions made by historic and political figures to democracry in the United States .
